Essential Mac Software

A friend of mine just bought a macbook the other day and asked if I could recommend any software that he should use. “Of course!” I replied. The following is my message to him. First thing, go to your System preferences/keyboard & mouse/trackpad   -Enable “2 finger on trackpad enable as right click; it’s super handy! Click here to see the magic!

The following are essential

“VLC Media player” Best free media player out there, plays virtually ANY type of video file, even the dodgy ones for torrents

iTunes -Please don’t use any other music player, they just don’t work as well as iTunes.

For downloading torrents, “Torrent Tomato” is the best; its super fast doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but its really great, I love it.

Get Skype, (you’ll have to make an account similar to msn ) If you don’t already use it, USE IT its great for keeping in touch with people (assuming you want to talk to them)

IM program, MSN messenger for Mac SUCKS. I recommend “Adium”, works a little differently than msn, but much better (in my opinion)

Web Browsers- Safari is a pretty great browser, I’m using it right now, but I also recommend “Firefox” as a secondary browser. There are tonnes of cool pluggins for Firefox, but I can get into that later.

DVD ripping; There is an awesome FREE program called Handbrake, it converts yor DVD’s into .avi files or into other formats. It’s pretty cool.

Let me know if you have any other questions, your “transformation” into a mac-ite can take as much as 3-4 months, but as we say “One you go Mac, you’ll never go back
